The Sweet Remedy Cafe

Oh sweet remedy, how we thoroughly enjoyed our time there today. Blue skies, cupcakes. coffee and bunnies! What a way to spend our friday morning. Was catching up with a friend and her beautiful baby daughter and there is no other place better to meet up than at The Sweet Remedy Cafe. It is located at the corner of Oxford Street and Bourke Street in Leederville, right next door to yummy mummy day spa. There are plenty of street parking along Bourke Street.

As we entered, we were treated to a plethora of cupcakes of all sorts of flavours. It took me a while to decide what to have and I finally decided on salted caramel. I also ordered a ‘decorate your own’ cupcake for Caleb, which he had so much fun putting it together. Such a brilliant idea! It consist of a ready-frosted cupcake, a bag of lollies and little gems to put on the cupcake, as well as a box to take it home. Caleb proudly did his up and wanted to take it home for daddy. Their coffees there are simply divine and I love their coffee machine too, Tiffany blue ooh yea. Besides cupcakes, they also do old skool jaffles, which I would love to try on my next visit.

Earlier this year, they opened up their backyard area which consist of a giant chalkboard and 2 little furry bunny friends, Sparkles and Sprinkles. Lots of grassy area to sit on or for the kids to roam around. There are seats available as well as umbrella when it gets just a little too sunny.

The Shipping Lane

Situated a stones throw away from Leighton beach, The Shipping Lane (TSL) in North fremantle is a ‘casual beachside dining where sandy feet and furry friends are more than welcome’. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. They are one of the most dog friendly cafes I’ve come across. As you enter, you can spot a whole jar full of yummy dog treats for your little furry member of the family.

The restaurant incorporates the clever use of retired shipping containers as part of their deco. Breakfast and lunch are counter service whereas dinner is table service. Either way, you’ll still get to enjoy the excellent service that TSL has to offers. We decided to have lunch there on a beautiful sunny day. The husband did a reservation online through their website (don’t worry, they reserve half their restaurant for walk-ins as well) and when we got there, we were swiftly seated and the little ones highchair was also already there. Menus were placed on the table and we simply just ordered at the counter. They have plenty of seats outside too for you to enjoy the sunshine and the sweeping view of the ocean.

Kids fish and chips

They offer a kids menu which is very impressive. Best part, KIDS EAT FREE MONDAYS (from 6pm). Each of their kids meal also comes with a glass of juice. For lunch that day, Caleb really wanted to have fish and chips. However, when i looked at the menu, I noticed that it was only offered during dinner. I approached the friendly staff and she (Thanks Sarah) kindly made an exception and requested for it to be made available for lunch as well. Great service and great food was what we got to enjoy that day.

It doesn’t just end there. Great food and service is also accompanied by the GREAT VIEW of the beach! This place has got the trifecta! As we got there early, we went down to the beach to have a play till it was lunch time. It’s literally just across the road from TSL. There is also a huge grassy area where the kids can run free. Great for working off the lunch.

Carrington Park Nedlands

Since the last write up on Carrington Park in Nedlands, a new playground has been installed. Yay! Don’t worry, Big Bertha is still there, shining as brightly as ever, New play equipment, new shades, new tables and chairs. The new playground is more toddler friendly with shorter slides, smaller steps, a rocking frog and a crawling tunnel. Kids of all ages can still enjoy it nonetheless. It is still fully gated and fenced. They were plenty of friendly dogs doing their morning exercise of just simply running area on the grassy area just outside the playground. The playground is fenced away from the dogs, just in case 🙂

Menchie’s Frozen Yoghurt

Hailing from the US of A, Menchie’s frozen yoghurt have landed into our WA shores since Nov 2014. We finally managed to go try it and we certainly picked a good day to go because its Monday Yumday! Harvest Espresso

How a small little kitchen run by a husband and wife team produce such beautiful food never fail to amaze me every single time I visit Harvest Espresso. Beautifully plated (and tasting) food is what you can consistently expect from Harvest. Each plate, as it leaves the humble kitchen, is bursting with the chef’s love and pride. This is one place where I don’t think anyone has ever NOT taken a single photo of the food when it hits their table. Always laughed at people taking photos of food? I dare you to step into Harvest and not do the same.

The menu here changes every season and I always look forward to the next season to see what clever food concept they come up with. After, I’m wishing the season never ends cos I simply love what the current menu has to offer. Psst, heard they’re doing an all-stars menu one day. ‘Like’ their Facebook page for all the up-to-date menu and drool upon all their gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous photos. Service here is impeccable. Staff is always so accommodating. A point to note, weekends and peak time they’re always very packed and often you can spot a queue a mile away (so worth the wait). We try to go on weekdays and early on weekends and never had to wait long. To those who had to shift over to another table for us (or family with kids for that matter) so we can fit the highchair, a big thanks to you. Harvest staff are always there to make sure everyone is comfortable. The inside of the cafe is small and only fits about 8 tables. However, if you come with a pram, theres always tables outside as well.

Once you enter the cafe, the mountain of croissants and cakes and muffins will hit you and you’ll be at a lost as to what to order. My advice, order stuff from the seasonal menu and have the baked goods to go.

Never have i seen any other cafes in Perth with such an extensive selection of drinks. From cold to hot, coffees, matcha tea, red espresso, juices, ice teas, you name it they have it. I finally got to try their famous Matcha chocolate latte and it was to die for!
