The Little Pantry

We were heading up to Shenton park for Caleb’s 1 yr vaccination and thought ah, might as well head there early, beat the traffic and have breakfast at The Little Pantry. Been coming here for years now as it is close to work. They started out offering coffees for $2.50!! Ahh miss those days. Its a cozy little cafe, seats inside and out the back. They make awesome cakes too. Lunches there is really good too. They do rolls, quiches etc. My all-time favourite there would be their chicken schnitzel roll with spicy slaw. Breakfast there is a simple affair, nothing too fancy but still tasty. I would highly recommend their muffins. Too good. They don’t have high-chairs though. But if you need to take a pram with you, sit out the back. Plenty of space and theres a grassy patch for the little ones to crawl around too.

LOVE the yellow chairs. They also have a chalk wall for kids (and adults) to draw on. Chalks are freely available scattered on the grass alongside the wall. I think this is an awesome idea. Keeps the little ones busy.

Somehow I don’t seem to have any pictures of the food that we had. Must be too busy eating!! But heres a picture of the food cabinet (was taken during breakfast time so most of the rolls for lunch are still being prepared, hence cabinet slightly empty).

Small Print Bakery Roastery

One of our favourite place to go to whilst in the city on a weekday is Small Print Bakery and Roastery. Its also an ideal place to go to if you’re meeting someone who works in the city for lunch (Hi Michele!!). Small Print is located in the relatively newly built Brookfield Place (basement, below Print Hall-with lift access). Its a casual, easy going place that serves excellent coffee (hot, iced and cold drip), rolls, soup, pies and sweets. And surprisingly the prices are very reasonable. There’s sitting area inside and outside. We always choose outside sitting, unless its full, as its spacious enough to fit a pram. Theres a high chair available if you require one but its quite a big one (boori wooden one). Caleb sat in it once but he almost fell through the bottom. Probably more suited for 1.5 yrs and up. Or a baby who can actually sit still. So whenever we go Mr wiggly pants just happily sits in his stroller, eating his meal, watching the world go by.

They make the best ice coffee/choc/mocha in my opinion. It doesn’t come with the standard ice-cream or cream (GAG!!) but the milk froth that they stack on top is so smooth and silky, you wont even know that the ice cream is missing. Perfect for summer!!

Their baked treats are pretty awesome too. We’ve tried the flourless choc cake, cheesecake, Blueberry danish, escagots, criossants, cupcakes, banana sticky podding (oh my, no wonder my post preggo weight isnt going anywhere) so far and they’re all fantastic.

Brookfield plaza also features numerous dining options (fancy and non-fancy) which we’re hoping to go try one day. But somehow we keep gravitating back towards small print!! Theres also Print hall, heritage, trustee, boboche, sushia, Bob’s daily apple bar, grill’d burger and loads more.  Only annoying thing about Small print is that they don’t open on the weekends. Just another point, if you require a feeding/change room in the city, Enex100 has a very nice nursing room and change facilities. Its also equipped with a tv screen and one of those panal activity centre thing for the kids. Its located just next to lululemon.

Galangal Thai Cuisine

It was the evening of Caleb’s 1st birthday party that we decided to have dinner at Galangal thai cuisine in east vic park. We were just so buggered after the party to think of what to cook or to even cook for that matter. So we called galangal up and booked a table for us 3. Merrily we went and on the way we were already rattling off what we were going to order. Yup, they’re our current favourite thai restaurant at the moment. Their pricing is so reasonable and service is good. Their dishes are not massive which to me is excellent cos I get to order a couple and have variety! Perfect for a group of 2 or 20! The restaurant is not big, so do call up prior to going just in case. And note they only have ONE high chair so do do DO call to book if you’re going to be needing one. You can also do online reservation at their website: http://www.galangalthaicuisine.com/

We ordered 2 entrees: Thai fish cakes and green papaya salad. FANTASTIC. Have also had the tom yum soup before and they’re superb as well. Its always so hard to decide what to order there cos everything is just so good.

For mains, we had the pad prik king (prawns) and roast duck red curry with lychees. They’re my utmost favourite there. Warning. The pad prik king is SPICY! The waitress was literally by my side the whole time refilling my water. The hubs who usually can endure spice was spotted with beads of sweat on his brow. If you’re going there, you MUST MUST order their roast red duck curry with lychees. The skin of the duck is still crispy and the meat oh-so-juicy. I could eat 10 serves of that!

After all that food, we had no room for dessert. However, they do the traditional mango sticky rice and some coconut rice dessert. Maybe next time I will leave some room for them. Especially when mango season is coming up!! I bet it will be good 🙂

Felix and co speciality coffee

Realised its been awhile since I’ve written in here. I actually forgot my password! Have been planning the little one’s FIRST birthday party. Now thats done, i can actually write again. I actually missed writing. Anyway, for a first write up back for awhile, its a short one and something for the adults only.

A few weeks back, I had to pop into work for a quick meeting and afterwards, we popped into a new little coffee joint along Hampden road in Nedlands as my friend declared he NEEDS a cold drip coffee from Felix & Co speciality coffee. We walked down and i had my usual skinny cap. Which was made to perfection. And trusting my friend, they do a pretty awesome cold drip too. Theres a couple of beans to choose from. And they also do Syphon coffee (brewed over a bunsen burner??). Yea I’m not quite that fancy pants with my coffee but it does sound fancy. Probably might try it one day. Felix & co is a cool little spot for a quick take away coffee if you’re along nedlands/charlies area. There’s counter top chairs inside and definitely no high chair and no space for a pram. I doubt they do babycinos either. Only good coffee. Ah the little ones can just stay in the pram outside for this one. They’ll live 🙂
